Health and Safety Advisor - Oil & Gas

Our Oil & Gas client is recruiting for a Health and Safety Advisor to directly support the Capital Projects Teams in  completions, production, facilities and field operations in both planning and execution.  This is an initial one year contract position that will  transition to permanent for the right individual.   This is an opportunity to join a stable energy leader that is continually focused on delivering operational excellence and improvement.  Their culture is one of collaboration, adaptability and empowerment.  The Health and Safety Advisor will bring a breadth of experience in all areas safety in an upstream energy.  S/he will have experience with larger enterprise safety programs coupled with an ability to adapt those concepts in a fit-for-purpose environment. 

Responsibilities of the Health and Safety Advisor include:
  • Support Capital Projects’ activities in both planning and execution
  • Develop Capital Projects specific H&S processes and procedures
  • Manage contractor health and safety audits, including pre-contract review of contractor’s Health and Safety Management Systems
  • Monitor health and safety performance, conduct internal audits and verify compliance, identify opportunities for improvement and work proactively with the team to continuously improve   
  • Participate in pre-job risk assessments, operations planning, and CWOPS and DWOPS
  • Review and recommend new processes and programs
Requirements & Background of the Health and Safety Advisor include:
  • 10 - 15 years’ experience with an E&P Producer in safety management in Oil & Gas completions, production, facilities and field operations – Must have
  • 5+ years supporting Capital Projects
  • Experience with Incident Management including root cause analysis i.e. TapRooT, SCAT
  • Experience with internal auditing systems
  • Experience in an enterprise environment with best- in-class safety programs - Must have
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Sciences, Engineering or related fields – Must have
  • CRSP (Canadian Registered Safety Professional)
  • Transformational versus transactional approach, strong influencer, excellent communication skills, relationship builder, strong engagement , pragmatic results focus
  • Travel up to 50% to the field (once travel is permitted)
